Although we’re big advocates of vintage leathers, this Tumbled Leather Cropped Biker Jacket from Burberry Prorsum’s Spring/ Summer 2011 collection skips the rule and is destined to be a modern classic.
At £1595 it’s not going to be in everybody’s price range, but we believe in spending that bit more on leather as it’ll probably outlive you and a good leather jacket is our number investment piece… at least that’s what we tell ourselves when we splurge on leather.
That being said, if you want the real thing (which is know doubt the inspiration for the Burberry jacket) then you should keep a look out on American eBay for the Perfecto 613 (‘One Star’) made by Schott NYC. It’s the Biker Jacket that was made popular by Marlon Brando in ‘The Wild One’ and later by The Ramones. It was also a staple piece of James Dean’s wardrobe and even Sid Vicious was meant to have once said he wanted to be buried in his! You can pick a good vintage one up for around $400 upwards which is a fraction of the price but still a great investment.
